[quote="OregonMomOf3"]I work full time from home as an IC for myself. I have been transcribing for 15 years now and am self taught. I took medical terminology, biomedical core, biology, anatomy and physiology in college, then went to work for a newspaper in advertising. Fifteen years later I decided I wanted to stay home with the kiddos so I talked with a friend who was transcribing and she showed me the ropes. The only book I had was a Dorland's, and an old PDR my friend gave me.
I got my accounts the old fashioned way, I printed business cards on cardstock and attached them to magnets, made flyers and hit the streets. I knocked on tons of clinic doors and private offices handing out my flyers and giving them the magnet. They all said "we already have someone doing our transcription." I politely thanked them, but asked them to put the magnet on a file cabinet "just in case." About three weeks later I got my first call from an ophthalmologist who had a falling out the day before with his transcriptionist and wanted to know if I could help him out.
Well, the rest is history. I have typed in house doing acute care at a hospital, typed for two internet agencies, contracted with clinics, etc. By far my favorite is what I have been doing exclusively for the last four years which is 100% independent - my own accounts. I currently have...
£
2 orthopedics
1 podiatrist
2 family practice
1 sleep study doc
